Welcome to Science Friday. Let’s start by examining the magic of mushrooms. Not those kind. Geesh.
And now for a brief discussion on the inventor of the light bulb: Joseph Swann. Wait, who?
We’ve been waging an ongoing war with mice in our chicken and quail coops this year and the mice still are going strong. We’ve recently gone back to basics: an irreducibly complex machine known as…the standard mousetrap. Now I just need 100 more:
Speaking of simple-yet-complex designs, I love the way this one shows how a tiny oversight has dramatic consequences. So pray for those airplane mechanics:
I’m always amazed that Americans can come up with new things that I must have in my life. A bulletproof pillow is really a thing? Somebody get Mike Lindell on the phone. He needs to get on this:
Ever wonder what causes a blood clot, or what your grandpa’s stent does? As my mechanic father-in-law would say, “The heart is like a fuel pump.” If there ain’t no flow, it ain’t gonna go:
Truth be told, I’d never heard of a dhole before reading The Jungle Book. I’m familiar with plenty of other kinds of holes though, and the book version of Mowgli is kind of like them, and kind of like the dholes too. Just sayin:
And finally, just for fun let’s throw in a little Hobbytime, Lord of the Rings style:

The Modern War Series: Historical novels that don’t suck.
Did you know I’m an author? I love history, but my bookshelves are full of great novels and military non-fiction that I can’t let my kids read. My books are different. If you know someone who loves military action you’ll enjoy my modern war series: Beyond the Golden Hour, The Stars and Their Places, Pegasus, and the upcoming fourth book in the series, Those Who Face Death. Get them here, or online wherever books are sold.
